Gong Xi Fa Cai!

Chinese New Year is traditionally spent with relatives. In fact most of the city shuts down for the week after the 1st day of the new lunar year. Many people in Hong Kong have relatives in Mainland China, Taipei, Malaysia, etc and it's a mass exodus. This leaves expats in bit of a conundrum because it's a perfect time to leave Hong Kong but a crazy time for traveling.

A group of us expats had a new year's dinner of Chinese hot pot and stiff drinks. It was my first time having Chinese hot pot (isn't Korean different?) and it reminds me of fondue but the order of adding the raw meat and vegies takes some getting used to.

I hope you all have a wonderful New Year... Chinese or otherwise!
